PLEASE READ: Hackers!

Hello Everyone


I'm very worried. As Mikaldinho kindly pointed out, we could be in danger of hackers! I've seen many forums go down, including Promotionnaire, Advertise Hot Spot (only for a while) and numberous other forums.
I would like to ask you all to change your passwords to something above 7+ words/numbers, please also add a captial letter, and a number or two (included in the 9+ words/numbers).
e.g password: MRgrumble56

This would be seriously helpful, as we could go down and I just can't start all over again, 1,500 posts may not be much, but it's the most I've ever done. Please make sure to choose a password which is NOT related to any of your forums (containing no forum names, keywords, etc) and please choose something personal you haven't shared. Anywhere.

I'd like to thank you all. All the old inactive staff have been demoted (those who haven't visited for 3 weeks +) so the hacker can't hack into their inactive and important Admin Panel access. I have also changed my password.

I suggest everyone to change their passwords to 12+.

And never give your account info, to anyone.

Added to 9+ . As Micro1000 said, 12+ is a good amount too.

why not change host?

It is possible to transfer posts over from forumotion to phpbb, isn't it?

I really dont think it makes any different to who you are hosted by at the end of the day you can get hacked on any hosting company.

I'm on the converter. We are going to convert to PhpBB in a few days/weeks.

Would that not mean you will have to start all over again as you can not transffer over the database?

You can transfer the database with a crawler.

But anyway, we are using a Phbpp converter. We shall be going to MyBB sooner or later, we will then change our theme one last time.

so all posts stay, but on a different host?
also is it just forumotion promotion sites, or just about all of the forumotion sites?
and how do you convert from Phbpp to MyBB?

Change of plan:
I am hiring someone (with forum money) on Forum Promotion so they are being a temporary admin so they can download and add the crawler, or whatever they do. MyBB.
This ought to be done in the next few days

That's dreadful. Do you know how long ago they started to hack? I've seen the same two hackers hack a couple or more forums, but not the third.

Yes they are attacking every site they don't like, that is what happens when parents do not control their kids.

I heard something (when they posted a message saying why they are going to hack a forum) about that one f the forum's staff had insulted their brother....? And they were 'going to pay'.

And I wonder if they are reading that, and getting offended.
How do they hack your forum anyway? Guess the password?
