Free or Paid

Which one do you prefer?

As in..? If you mean Forum Software, free all the way.

If you are talking about forum softwares, I prefer not pay for them. That's why I just use free softwares. All paid forums are so expensive, I'd rather use a free software and spend the money buying a nice theme and advertising space.

I'd like to pay for IPB and build it there, but right now I don't really have money to spare in a hobby. Even if I am aware they are cheap, nothing is cheap enough when you are unemployed and in seek of relocation. The community is working in Forumotion so it will stay there for a while.

I want to buy a domain and software license, so I can learn too how to install other forums and therefore learn how to set on other sites for the internet access.

I am considering getting a paid online job to raise money for this forum.

For those who have used both, there is not much difference to be honest. All software at the end of the day comes down to preference.

Why? what is it you like about vb and ipb and others over phpBB?

Personally for me all the paid forum software's other than XenForo are really really bad. The themes make me puke. So that's why I stick with my favourite two free ones: MyBB and PhpBB

No, because you are more likely to get what you want if you pay for it.
Free ones have limits.

Phpbb3 is rather defaultish.

I prefer paid, it looks better in my opinion.

If phpBB was paid I would pay but as its free I use free.

I think MyBB is just as good as vB and XenForo. IPB might be slightly better (It's better than XenForo because it's older so it has less bugs).
